The Yacht Club Resort, located at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, provides an ease of mind for travelers in wheelchairs. The Resort first welcomes you with both handicap accessible (van) parking or valet service. The Porte-Cochere does have curbs, but lower to a small ramp at ground level on more than one access point. The doors leading to the lobby are wide, automatic double glass sliding doors, which allows for ease of access. The lobby is flat, with 4 elevators in the lobby, and an elevator halfway down the main building. Lobby restrooms include handicap stall and grab rails, as well as much of the hotel includes handicap door open buttons or fully automatic doors. The hotel room itself showcased tight accessibility upon entering the room through the door, but door was fully automatic and remained open for 10 seconds. I reviewed a king bedroom, which featured plenty of space to maneuver around the bed, exceeding 36 inches, and ability to maneuver the bathroom as well. Bathroom featured roll in shower, which included a seat, and grab bars with lowered sink. Beach Club rooms featured lowered, accessible bath tub. Desks and doors were also lowered for convenience. However, the 2 double bedroom at the Yacht Club did not have as much space to maneuver around the bed. Between the bed and walls, space did not meet 36 inches, falling short at 32 inches, but the space measured in the middle of the two beds exceeded 40 inches. Rea height was acceptable, below 20 inches in Each room. Bed height was acceptable, below 30 inches in each room.

The Resort is very accessible and includes several different ways to get to point A to point B. Anywhere this is stairs, you can expect an elevator if indoor, or a big ramp outdoors, in which comes in hands for not only wheelchairs, but strollers and ECV’s as well. Pool has sand bottom and is usually walk in. No need to use the chair lift. Meneuvering around is easy and effortless! Door entering rooms are a little tight, between the bed and wall is tight, but between the 2 beds is very roomy! Hallways, lobby, and walkways are easy to meneuver, as is the drop off loop in front of the hotel. Curb lowers down to ground and you are welcomed by warm hospitality and wide, automatic double sliding glass doors. Attatched is a picture of one of the ramps outdoors, heading toward the pool and the boardwalk.
