Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour | X | 5 | 21 Viaduct Harbour Avenue Auckland New Zealand 1010 | Auckland | 64-9-9099000 | 240 | 5 | 4.7 | Fabulous, upscale hotel directly on Auckland Wharf and very wheelchair accessible. Terrific waterfront location with short, level stroll to multiple waterfront restaurants. All areas of hotel very wheelchair accessible. Rooms very nicely designed, some with beautiful waterfront views. Bathrooms large with extra counter space. I stayed in regular room (non-handicapped) which was very accessible. The entire Auckland Wharf is very accessible; most restaurants were accessible and had wheelchair accessible restrooms. | Visit Website
Rees Hotel | X | 5 | 377 Frankton Road Queenstown New Zealand 9300 | Queenstown | 64 3 450 1100 | 270 | 5 | 4.5 | Fabulous small, newer boutique hotel and apartments on Lake Wakatipu. Contemporary European design; all very wheelchair accessible. Lobby and most rooms have breathtaking waterfront views. Dining room, lounge and breakfast room all very spacious, wheelchair accessible with accessible restrooms. Hotel has 2 buildings: Frances Building includes lobby, dining, conference and other rooms; Williams Building has best waterfront rooms but requires a 2nd elevator to access. Underground garage parking but no handicapped parking; must use valet. Bathrooms large with extra counter space. | Visit Website
Te Anau Lodge (B&B) | 3 | 52 Howden Street Te Anau New Zealand | Te Anau | 64 3 249 7477 | 250 | 4 | 4.6 | Very nice, charming B&B; a converted convent. George and Adam were wonderful hosts! Front entry accessible with ramp. Upstairs lounge not accessible (2 flights of stairs). Wheelchair accessible room (The Baptistry) is small with 1 double bed. In the bedroom, they moved the bed a couple inches and removed the dresser to give me more room. Nice sized wheelchair accessible bathroom with well designed roll-in shower. | Visit Website
Solitaire Lodge | 3 | Lake Tarawera RD 5 Rotorua 3076 | Rotorua | 64-7-362-8208 | 1400 | 5 | 4.4 | Included in the Book 1,000 Places to See Before You Die. Absolutely spectacular private setting and views of Lake Tarawere. The Lodge has 1 wheelchair accessible room, the Solitaire Room, but the ramp to enter this room is quite steep (you will need assistance). The bathroom is quite large but the doorway and hallway leading to the bathroom are narrow (my 24 1/2 inch wheelchair barely made it including 2 right turns). The bedroom and sitting area is enormous. Private patio deck is large and accessible with breathtaking views. Very pricey but what a memory! | Visit Website |
