Wheelchair Jimmy Comments
We stayed at the West Street Hotel in Bar Harbor during our October 2018 tour of New England’s fall foliage and it was spectacular. And it’s totally wheelchair accessible. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of town across from the water and wharf. It’s a step free entrance along the waterfront and there are no steps anywhere on the property. The rooftop deck and infinity pool on the 5th floor is fully accessible via elevator and ramps. There is valet or self parking available.
Our oceanfront room was beautifully decorated with a warm nautical decor and very spacious. Bed height was 28 1/2 inches and there was space for a Hoyer lift. The room has a reasonably sized balcony, although there is a 2 inch lip from the room to the balcony. The bathroom was very spacious as well with extra counter space. The tub shower had no attached bench seat. There was a shelf under the sink so you’ll have to access the sink sideways in your wheelchair.
Paddy’s restaurant located down the hallway (on street level) is fun, full service, quite large, step free and very wheelchair accessible. There is reasonably large accessible restroom off the hotel’s main lobby.
We absolutely loved the West Street hotel, the location and friendly staff. On the WJAR Index the West Street Hotel gets a 5! And the whale watching, lobster fishing and sightseeing tours are located literally across the street. What a fun weekend!!
