Wheelchair Jimmy Accessibility Comments

We stayed here 1 night during our October 2018 fall foliage tour of New England on our way to visit Newport RI. Unfortunately, this previous full service Marriott Hotel was sold to a new owner and will be going through a large renovation. During our stay it was a bit painful.

Parking at the hotel was an issue since we were driving a van and the parking garage said 6 ft 4 inches was the limit. There was a flashing light saying “vehicle too high”. There is no valet parking but they kindly permitted us to park the van at the front entry door. The hotel is located downtown just off the freeway with one-way streets surrounding the property. It took us a an extra 10 minutes to gain entry.

The hotel entry was step free and all common areas were step free. The hotel is located in an office/mall location downtown so there was elevator access everywhere. The rooms were nice sized with the sink located outside the bath/toilet area. Bed height was 25 inches and there was 6 1/2 inches under the bed for a Hoyer Lift, if needed. The bathroom was very large and accessible. Our room #1009 had a tub shower with grab bars and a removable plastic shower chair.

The “Current” restaurant (pictured) was open only for breakfast during the renovation and not open for dinner. So we ate at the sports bar (also pictured) located on the property just down the hall. Both were fully accessible. The sports bar food was “just OK” and the service was slow. The bar tender was horrible. Don’t order mixed drinks. There were no nearby restaurants.

This property is fully wheelchair accessible but not my favorite, and I would highly recommend finding an alternative at least for the next 2 years until the renovation is complete. Without a dinner restaurant The Tower Square Springfield hotel gets a 3 and the WJAR index.
