Mala’s Ocean Tavern in Lahaina’s is one of our absolute favorites on Maui, is step free, and reasonably wheelchair accessible. The restaurant sits directly on the ocean front and the views are spectacular, especially at sunset. The seafood is among the best on Maui, and the drinks, wines, starters and entrees are all fabulous. We dined on the Ahi Bruschetta, Farmers Salad, Fresh Fish (Ono) A La Plancha with prawns (see pic) and Whole Wok Fried Hawaiian Fresh Fish (see pic). All were incredible!
Mala’s is quite small and the limited patio seating area is first come first serve and hard to get. Reservations highly recommended. The restaurant has probably a dozen accessible tables, but the desired seating is on the patio where the tables are tightly scrunched together. There is an accessible restroom but often they have tables or chairs blocking it. There is a small parking lot, street parking and valet.
The adjacent Honu Restaurant is far more spacious and operated by the same owners. Its restroom is far more accessible. Their food is also delicious.
On the WJAR index, Mala’s Ocean Tavern get a 3 for accessibility, but a top rating for the dining. We love it at Mala’s!
