Purdue University Fort Wayne Hospitality Management Student Travel Tips
Entrance, Front Desk, and Elevators: Holiday Inn Purdue – Fort Wayne is a gorgeous and spacious hotel destination. Not only is Holiday Inn warm and inviting, but the hotel staff is more than friendly! The accessibility of entrance and front desk are wheelchair compatible. The entrance is more than spacious and the front desk is low enough and meets the ADA 36” height requirements, though you cannot pull up completely with legs under the desk because it is flush from counter to floor. When you take the elevator to your room the button is reachable allowing wheelchair users easy access.
Public Restrooms and Water Fountains: The public restrooms are pristine and ADA-friendly. The oversized bathroom stall is provided with two grab bars for assistance. Moving to the sink, they are consistent with ADA guidelines: 48”L X 30”W X 36”H. The sinks can allow the wheelchair to pull up underneath for use. Lastly, the water fountains, located outside the bathrooms, one of the two fountains is at a low 36” in height.
Private Bedroom and Restroom: When crossing the threshold of your room, there is plenty of space. The bed is 22” in height and has 36” of space on either side to access it. Your working area does come with a rolling chair but it can be moved to allow your wheelchair to take its place. The closet is 36” in width to allow inside access and the shelving unit is no higher than 36” for any clothes or luggage. Lastly, the bathroom. Just like the public restroom, the sink is 48”L X 30”W X 36”H, and the toilet has two surrounding grab bars. Your shower is provided with roll-in access, a grab bar surrounding the full interior of the shower, and an adjustable shower head. The shower has a removable shower seat, and is not anchored to the wall.
