UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management: Student Accessibility Comments

Walking up the Chili’s they have a doorway that is wide enough to be accessible, however, their heavy pull open doors make it difficult for someone who is by themselves in a wheelchair to get in. Especially because there are two sets of doors to be able to enter the restaurant. Once inside, there is a good amount of accessible seating throughout the restaurant, two of those tables are within the bar area at low-top tables. Other than those two tables, everything else in the bar is high-top and stools. There are other seating options within the restaurant, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. The entire restaurant is step-free, from the entrance, to the to-go pick up, and the restrooms. As for the restrooms, the men’s room had a very accessible stall located in the back corner of the restroom. This allows the customer to get himself in and out without any difficulty of the main door being in the way. However, the accessible restroom stall in the women’s bathroom is located just behind the main door. This makes it very difficult for someone in a wheelchair to maneuver in and get behind the door to enter the stall. It also made it just as difficult to exit the bathroom because as you open the stall door, it blocks the main entrance of the bathroom, making it difficult for a wheelchair bound person to get out as well as anyone else to get in.

Overall my experience here was wonderful. The hostess and server I interacted with were both very kind and accommodating. I was able to get a seat within the bar area, which was exciting for me because that is where I personally prefer to sit and watch the games on TV. The food was pretty good (I ordered the 2 for $25.00 meal which came with an appetizer and a desert), and the drinks were even better. My favorite drink there is the Texas strawberry lemonade; I definitely had a couple while enjoying my dinner. The only complaint I could have is the bathrooms were on the smaller side, which did not make them easily accessible in a wheelchair. However, the dining and bar areas were kept clean and had a very open and inviting atmosphere. I will come back to eat here, as it is one of my favorite chain restaurants.
