Spectacular Resort in Hood River
I visited in October 2021 when I went Salmon Fishing on the Columbia River, and again in April 2022 with my wife. The property location is absolutely stunning, and is totally wheelchair accessible. I’ve stayed at a couple Best Western Plus properties and this property is my Favorite – simply due to the views. The rooms are very nice and well appointed, the bathrooms fully accessible and bed height about 28 inches. The suites facing the Columbia River are huge and the balconies overlooking the Columbia River are accessible. The property is very large with several buildings but only a single registration desk which is up multiple steps. The accessible entrance is well marked and you’ll go down a mildly steep ramp, enter the adjacent building, and then ride the large elevator up to the main floor. The registration desk is down the hallway. The registration process was not the most convenient but once complete, the visit was fabulous. Its self park with many van accessible spaces. BTW I’d request an accessible room in the WEST WING near the front desk. The restaurant and bar are beautifully decorated, comfortable and there are many wheelchair accessible tables.
My favorite room is the ADA Accessible Suite room 263 located in the West Wing where the balcony opens onto the Columbia River.
Weather permitting, the patio dining is highly recommended and totally accessible. If you’re interested in Salmon fishing, the guides depart at dockside located a few feet away. The boat I took was not accessible but the guys just picked me up and sat me in a deck chair – BTW I caught a 25 pounder. Incredible experience on a sunny, crisp September day. On the WJAR index, the Best Western Plus Hood River get a 4 and it’s highly recommended. I’d be tempted to rate it a 5 but the registration process is a bit cumbersome.
