Wheelchair Jimmy Accessibility Comments
We dined at the historic White Barn Inn Restaurant (which is also listed in our book of 1,000 Places to See Before You Die) during our October 2018 trip throughout New England . They offered great food, drinks and service. They’ve worked hard to make this historic inn and restaurant wheelchair accessible and we had a marvelous lunch. The restaurant is a local landmark that has been standing for over 150 years. This Relais & Châteaux property has become renowned for its warm New England hospitality, rustic charm and uncompromising attention to detail. And we loved it!
There are a number of steps at the entrance but the restaurant personnel were waiting for us and showed us where to park in the rear parking lot. They then escorted me to the small hydraulic wheelchair lift which took me to the dining level. Although I normally avoid properties with small WC lifts, I was delighted to have an opportunity to experience the historic White Barn Inn.
We had a seafood appetizer and lobster pizza for lunch, and every bite and every moment here was a delight. And the service was terrific! They also provided us a brief tour of the property which was fun and, as you’ll see in my picture, their HUGE fall pumpkin. FYI – as part of the history, the presidential Bush family dines here occasionally – and I can see why.
The dining room is all on one level, is spacious and step free. One of the hallway entrances is narrow, so I took an alternative very accessible route. There is a wheelchair accessible restroom in the Inn’s spa which is relatively close to the dining room.
On the WJAR Index, the White Barn Inn gets a 3 resulting from the small hydraulic lift needed for entry and some narrow hallways, but this property is spectacular, one of my Favorites, and I highly recommend it. It’s a must visit if you’re in the area!
