Historic Resort in the Green Mountains of New Hampshire
The Equinox is absolutely spectacular and very wheelchair accessible. We loved the picture perfect setting although the service was slow.
Wheelchair Jimmy Accessibility Comments
We stopped at the Equinox Resort for 2 nights on our October 2018 fall foliage tour in New England. Established in 1769, the Equinox is included in our book of 1,000 Places to See Before You Die and we didn’t want to miss it. The Equinox Resort is located in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont and it is fabulous. We stayed in room 333. The entire resort is wheelchair accessible including their 3 restaurants, bar, indoor pool and meeting rooms.
There are multiple steps at the entrance but there’s an easy step free side ramp that takes you to the lobby. All common areas are step free.
The hotel has 199 rooms, 8 wheelchair accessible rooms and 4 roll-in showers. Our room was spacious and elegantly decorated. The bathroom was especially large and very accessible. Bed height was 23 inches. The roll-in showers have attached pull-down bench seats. But getting to our room from the front desk was a jaunt down 2 long hallways with really thick carpets. Thank goodness for bellmen.
We dined at the historic March Tavern which is also listed in our book of 1,000 Places to See Before You Die. They offered great food, drinks and service. It’s totally wheelchair accessible with a commercial elevator which takes you down to the dining level. Their fine dining option The Chop House is adjacent and equally accessible. The Colonnade breakfast restaurant is gorgeous and accessible as well.
While the resort was fabulous in a picture perfect quaint Vermont setting, service was very slow. The valet parking was slow, check-in was really slow and breakfast service at the Colonnade Room was especially slow, even with many open tables.
The resort offers both valet and self parking. Valet parking is best here since the self park lot is a long roll and there’s a slight grade.
On the WJAR Index, the Equinox Resort gets a 4 as it’s a spectacular resort, spacious and very wheelchair friendly. Be mindful however of the thick carpets, long hallways and slow service.
