Napier is a New Zealand city with a seaport, located in Hawke’s Bay on the eastern coast of the North Island. Napier is a popular tourist city, with a unique concentration of 1930s Art Deco architecture, built after much of the city was razed in the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake. It also has one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country, a statue on Marine Parade called Pania of the Reef. Thousands of people flock to Napier every February for the Tremains Art Deco Weekend event, a celebration of its Art Deco heritage and history.

Our Princess Cruise ship docked in Napier, New Zealand which is located on the east coast of the north island.
This is just a charming coastal town with an historical Art Deco look with multiple accessible shops and restaurants. The town is very level, and there are no hills or difficult access areas. And don’t miss a stroll down the Emerson Street promenade all the way to the beautifully landscaped Clive Square. Everything is very level and very wheelchair accessible. And there’s also a Starbuck’s on Emerson St with an accessible restroom.
From the cruise ship dock there are wheelchair accessible buses with fold down ramp (large power wheelchairs may not fit onto the Napier “accessible” buses). There are several public wheelchair accessible restrooms in town as well.
We had a fabulous day with tons of opportunity for both shopping and relaxing in Clive Square. We had a very nice lunch at the Ujazi restaurant on Emerson St. (see my review). Trust me, you will really enjoy Napier.
