Excellent hotel with one potential problem
We had an excellent stay but the hallway between the sink area and toilet was only 26 1/2 inches. We really enjoyed the Andersen’s Split Pea restaurant across the parking lot. Get the split pea soup!
Wheelchair Jimmy Comments:
We spent a relaxing night her in early February 2020 on our annual trek to Phoenix. While the hotel has been around for decades, it seems like rooms have been recently renovated. It’s step free on 1st floor but there are steps to the 2nd floor. We stayed in room 126 which was reasonably spacious. The bed were excellent and bed height was about 26 inches. No space for a Hoyer Lift.
WARNING: The toilet / bathtub area was a separate area from the sink. There as a sliding door between the 2 areas and the door width was only 26 1/2 inches. No way a wide manual chair or regular power chair get through. I asked from front desk and they stated all accessible rooms had the same configuration.
In room 126 there was tub shower with a removable plastic chair. The sink counter area height was good and there’s lots of counter space, but you cannot roll under the sink – only sideways.
There’s serve breakfast only and the breakfast room was very small – but accessible. There were only a few cafe level tables; it’s mostly high tops.
Andersen’s Split Pea Soup Restaurent is across the parking lot and it’s step free. It’s full service breakfast lunch and dinner with full bar. It’s very accessible with an accessible restroom. The restaurant had mostly booths and I was able to easily pull up under one of them. They also had probably 10 cafe level tables. There’s also a wonderful gift shop that’s accessible.
The hotel is located adjacent to I-5 Freeway so don’t book room on west side where you’ll get freeway noise. Room 126 was very quiet.
On the WJAR index, the Best Western Andersen Inn gets a 3! It’s an excellent hotel but the doorway from the sink to the toilet might be a non-starter for some. See my pictures.
