We visited the Alderbrook Resort just after Labor Day in 2019 and had an absolutely fabulous 2 night stay. The Alderbrook Resort is a hidden gem in the Pacific Northwest located in a spectacular setting along the Hood Canal. They have 3 wheelchair accessible rooms and we stayed in room 210 which was beautifully appointed and has a small but accessible balcony overlooking the courtyard and Hood Canal (see picture). Rooms 201 & 202 are also ADA guest rooms with identical large bathrooms but have far larger balconies overlooking the courtyard and water. Bed height in these rooms is 26 inches. All have nicely designed roll-in showers and reachable shower controls. A Hoyer Lift will not fit under the bed.
Room 204 is the Parlor Suite which is larger with a sitting room and the bedroom off to the side. The bathroom was somewhat accessible for my narrow wheelchair but I could not turn around the wheelchair in this bathroom. Room 204 has a tub shower. For those wanting a really spacious guest room which is marginally accessible, room 204 is a good option.
There are no ADA “waterfront” rooms but views from rooms 201 – 204 were great. The standard Alderbrook guest rooms have small bathrooms which are not wheelchair accessible. The resort also offers multiple cottages which are much larger but no ADA cottages. I was told by the front desk that Cottages 11 and 12 were the most accessible. There is a reasonably level hard gravel path to the cottages.
The Alderbrook property is beyond beautiful and there are multiple activities and rental boats for families as well. The large Lady Alderbrook cruise boat is wheelchair accessible and I’m told has an accessible restroom albeit there is a 3-4 inch threshold to enter the inside cabin where the restroom is located. The family fun Pontoon boat is also wheelchair accessible.
The resort has a terrific restaurant which is very wheelchair accessible, We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner there and the food, service and waterfront view were fabulous. Really, really good!
If you want a fabulous resort experience, don’t miss the Alderbrook Resort. On the WJAR index the resort get a 5. We’ve decided the make the Alderbrook Resort an annual event and we’re even planning for a family reunion here. You will love this place!!!
