A Wheelchair-friendly Paradise
At the Polynesian Villas and Bungalows Resort, the ambiance and location cannot be beaten. For those traveling in wheelchairs, this resort is very accessible. The pathways around the resort are very wide and flat. The Polynesian is home to one of the most popular restaurants in Orlando, ‘Ohana. This restaurant is located on the second floor which can be accessed by elevator located conveniently in front of the restaurant in the lobby. There are also 2 other restaurants located in this main building and countless other world-class restaurants located a short monorail ride away. As far as the rooms go, they are very wheelchair friendly. The roll-in shower has a pull-down bench seat with shower controls that are very reachable. The restroom is large which provides easy access to both the toilet and the shower. The studios are also quite large and the beds are 23 inches high and very comfortable. The room that I reviewed had a gorgeous garden view and a wheelchair friendly door to access the patio to enjoy it. There are some small improvements that could be made. For instance, in the non-accessible studios, the area underneath the bed provides extra storage. Since the accessible rooms have a low bed, there is not this storage and there is not another place where the storage is replaced. The other issue in the room is that the kitchenette has a microwave that has not been lowered so it still requires a person to be standing to use it. Overall, the room is very comfortable and wheelchair friendly and, with some small improvements, it would be a perfectly wheelchair friendly room.
