Jim’s Accessibility Comments:

  • Pike Place Market is a nine-acre National Historic District that started in 1907 as a farmers market. It has recently been renovated with new elevators and 3 large wheelchair accessible restrooms making it a fun experience for disabled people, seniors and families. They are working hard to improve signage but the market is very accessible. They also regularly perform Lift Maintenance Repair to ensure the smooth operation of these facilities.
  • Handicapped parking is best on Western Avenue. Look for Pike Place Market or Public Market garage. Not Desimone Lot. Take the Skybridge elevator up to the main Arcade level (level 6). Depending on where you park on Western Avenue, there are two sets of elevators and crosswalks that lead to the market.
  • There are 2 new large public restrooms that have recently been added, although they can be difficult to find. One is at the far north end of the market in the Soames/Dunn Building and the other in the Sanitary Market Building toward the middle of the market. Both are on the east side of Pike Place Street. There is another large accessible restroom in the Fairley Building on the 4th level on the west side of Pike Place Street.
  • In addition to the 2 sets of elevators off Western Avenue, there are new elevators in the Corner Market Building and Economy Building near First Avenue and Pike Street.
  • There are a number of unique and historic restaurants in the market although many have no restrooms and wheelchair seating is limited. The Athenian Restaurant is on the west side of Pike Place Street on the main Arcade level and is fully accessible but has mostly booth seating. Both Matt’s in the Market and Pike Place Bar & Grill are in the Corner Market building (First & Pike) on the east side of Pike Place and are fun and fully accessible with access by elevator and no steps. We’ve also enjoyed Pike’s Brewing restaurant which is huge, totally wheelchair friendly with ramps everywhere and large accessible restrooms.
  • And for a really fun time buy some tickets to the Can Can. We took the family to the Sunday matinee in September 2018 and everyone loved it. There is one 9 inch steps and seating is really cramped, but it’s great fun!
