Wheelchair Jimmy’s Accessibility Comments

I visited The Marshall Suites in May 2019 and it’s a very nice, relatively new hotel and very wheelchair friendly. There are 3 wheelchair accessible rooms including 1 with a roll-in shower. Frankly many of the regular guest room are quite accessible as well. The hotel offers easy secured, step free underground parking with 1 van accessible parking space. You then take a large commercial elevator to the 1st floor check-in. There is also step free, street level parking although there are no accessible spaces.

Accessible guest room #208 is reasonably spacious with a king bed 27 inches in height. The night stands and bed light switches are accessible. The desk is accessible but the closet was hard to access due to the placement of the couch. The bathroom is large and step free with good counter space and an attached pull-down bench seat, although surprisingly there was no seat. It was just a metal frame (the manager is in the process of fixing this). There is also a removable plastic shower chair. You cannot reach the shower controls from the bench seat. There is a small well-designed 1/2 inch lip into the roll-in shower.

The design of accessible guest room #408 is basically the same as #208 but it has a tub shower with an attached bench seat. Again you cannot reach the shower controls while sitting on the bench. The bed in room #408 is 28 inches in height and has a 7 inch clearance under the bed for a Hoyer lift.

I also visited a standard king room #207 which was quite spacious with basically the same design as rooms 208 & 408. The bathroom was large and very accessible although it had a regular tub shower but seemingly covered with clear glass frameless shower doors like the ones at GSD.

The hotel offers a hot self serve breakfast. No dinner or drinks. All tables and counters in the breakfast area are high-tops with no cafe level seating options. There is a Starbucks and the Westside Pizza across the street. The Plate and Pint restaurant (lunch, dinner, drinks) is 1 reasonably level block away in the local shopping center. The accessible ice machines are on floors 2 & 4, and the accessible the washer/dryer area is on the 3rd floor. There is a large accessible restroom on the lobby level. No pool.

If you’re visiting beautiful Bainbridge Island, give the Marshall Suites a try. It’s very nice and very wheelchair friendly.
