Currently, the facility is operated by the nonprofit Manned Spaceflight Educational Foundation Incorporated with design input from Walt Disney Imagineering and designed by award-winning experience designer Bob Rogers (designer) and the design team BRC Imagination Arts.

Jim’s Accessibility Comments:

The Houston Space Center is fully wheelchair accessible. There are accessible trams, elevators, parking, restrooms and no restrictive steps.

Independence Plaza is fully accessible and it includes the NASA 905 shuttle carrier aircraft, and the the giant plane. It is the world’s only shuttle mounted on an SCA and the only one allowing the public to enter both. And they’re wheelchair accessible.

The Space Center is located about 1 hour 20 minutes southeast of Houston, but if you visit Houston you should consider this fun and educational excursion.
